Today's global marketplace offers investors more investment choices than ever. In managing assets, we utilize the concept of "Asset Allocation," which is investing in different asset classes such as stocks, bonds, and cash to help minimize the risk in an investment portfolio. The concept is based upon the principle of diversification, which is the process of combining different asset classes that react differently in the market from one another in order to maximize long term investment performance while reducing the risk (volatility) of a portfolio. How important is asset allocation? According to Ibbotson Associates, a leading authority on investment research and analysis, "the asset allocation decision is by far the most important determinant of performance for the long term investor." While diversification through an asset allocation strategy is a useful technique that can help to reduce overall portfolio risk and volatility, there is no certainty or assurance that a diversified portfolio will enhance overall return or outperform one that is not diversified.
We utilize a four-step process in helping a client establish an investment strategy.
Ø Determining Financial Objectives...working with the client to determine specific investment account objectives, time horizon, and risk tolerance.
Ø Developing an Asset Allocation Strategy...based upon the stated investment objectives, determining the appropriate asset allocation to help maximize investment return.
Ø Investment Selection...recommendations as to the appropriate investments and fund managers.
Ø Portfolio Review...to monitor investment performance and update client's financial objectives.
